The VIPS program’s ultimate goal is to enhance the capacity of local law enforcement to utilize volunteers, and to cultivate and make the most of the deep-seated traditions of service, citizenship, and responsibility in Androscoggin County.

Description:
Volunteers help to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to any emergency situation. This program will give residents of Lisbon the opportunity to give back to their community and to support local law enforcement.

Some duties the volunteers will potentially provide are:

• data entry, clerical support & greeters
• technical/computer support
• checking on homebound and/or elderly residents
• traffic control/parking during the Moxie Festival
• school crossing guides
• sign language services & foreign language interpreters
• vehicle lockout assistance
• support for victims of trauma

Volunteers in the VIPS program will be required to submit an application and are subject to a background check. All applicant’s must be over the age of 18, unless they are enrolled in an approved law enforcement program or need to provide a community service to obtain credits for high school graduation.

The potential and possibilities are endless! Call or e-mail today to become a VIPS Volunteer.

History:
The history of the Lisbon Police Department is not unlike many small Maine towns. Upon its incorporation in 1799, originally as Thompsonborough and a few years later as Lisbon, constables were appointed to serve civil process and keep the peace. The County Sheriff and the State Police shared duties in policing the town. The modern police era for Lisbon began in 1946. Chief David Brooks is the current Chief of Lisbon PD. We currently have 13 sworn officers, five reserve officers, an animal control officer and four dispatchers.
