The Freeport Historical Society encourages people to share and enjoy the history of Freeport, Maine. The Society actively preserves buildings, artifacts and archival materials of historic importance while encouraging similar restoration efforts in the community; develops research and educational programs which explore and interpret Freeport's history; and encourages related community activities which keep this history alive. By gaining an appreciation of Freeport's past, we can better understand the present and prepare for the future.

Description:
FHS owns, conserves and makes available to the public, two historic properties- Harrington House located on Main Street in Freeport, and, Pettengill Farm, a 120 acre salt water farm located on Pettengill Road. In addition, FHS hosts tours, exhibitions and other public events and activities and invites the public to utilize the Society's archives.

History:
FHS is a forty year old non-profit organization. It oversees two historic properties (and collections) that are open to the public.
