Minnkota Health Project provides client-centered, barrier-free services to persons whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS.
Description:
Minnkota Health Project provides emotional support, advocacy, social activities, quality of life/emergency assistance and a food distribution program for people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as individual and group emotional support for those living with HIV/AIDS their partners, families and caregivers. Our speakers' bureau and client board offers people living with HIV/AIDS the opportunity for self-empowerment and advocacy through leadership and community education activities.
History:
Minnkota Health Project was first incorporated as Prairies AIDS Conquest in November, 1989 in Bismarck, North Dakota. It started as an all-volunteer, grass roots community education and advocacy effort on behalf of people living with HIV/AIDS. In 1992, the organization moved to Fargo and changed its name to Dakota AIDS Project. Sometime before 1998, it assumed the name Minnkota Health Project, and continued to focus on advocacy and public education. In January 2000, Minnkota Health Project incorporated under the laws of Minnesota and moved its offices to Moorhead.
