The Volunteer Network strives to provide curricular and co-curricular service-learning opportunities for the NDSU community.

"The mission of the Volunteer Network is to instill an understanding and acceptance of Service-Learning by inspiring students, faculty, and staff to take an active role in our local and global community."

Description:
The Volunteer Network staff provides volunteers with service opportunities in the community and on the NDSU campus, maintains a record of service hours completed by NDSU, and communicates with volunteers and service agencies to ensure quality service experiences.

The Volunteer Network's mission and purpose are formed around the concepts of Service-Learning. Service-Learning can be compared to experiential education; however, Service-Learning is distinguished from traditional experiential education by its intent to equally benefit the provider and the recipient of the service, as well as ensure equal forces on both the service being provided and the learning that occurs. Volunteer Network is a program of the Memorial Union.

History:
The Memorial Union opened during Homecoming Week in October 1953. A statement of purpose issued in 1954 proclaimed, "It's not just a building, it is also an organization and a program." The Memorial Union has continually been remodeled to keep up with the growth of the student body, and services change to meet students' needs. Operational funding is provided in part by student activity fees. Policy is developed by students, faculty and alumni on the Memorial Union Advisory Board.

The Volunteer Network is very concerned about providing quality and necessary service to the students, faculty and staff at NDSU as well as to the Fargo-Moorhead community. We welcome feedback about our services and this web site. Please feel free to contact us with any suggestions, comments or concerns.
