The Fargo Public Library provides effective and efficient library services to meet the personal, professional and lifelong learning needs of the Fargo area citizenry.
Description:
As an organization, we work to fulfill that mission through the following services: Adult Services offers a broad-based collection of books, periodicals, CDs, videos, DVDs, and software. Information services provides public computers with Internet access along with wireless access. Children and Teen services offer age-appropriate materials, as well as information and programs to meet the early-learning and recreational needs of young people. Outreach services deliver library programs and resources to off-site locations. We are always seeking qualified volunteers for a variety of services. Please contact Pam Strait, Volunteer Coordinator, at 241-8111 or by e-mail at pstrait@cityoffargo.com.
History:
The Fargo Public Library has been serving the information and leisure reading needs of Fargo residents for over 100 years. It was established in 1901 and in 1939 an addition doubled the size of the original Carnegie Building. In 1968 the library was constructed at the corner of 1st Ave and 3rd St North. Fargo Public Library continues to grow. The Northport branch, located at 2714 North Broadway, opened to the public in July 2006. The Dr. James Carlson Library, located at 2801 32nd Avenue South, opened November 16, 2007 and replaced the small storefront Southpointe library. The Carlson library is a full-service, 15,000-square-foot facility connected to the Fargo Park District’s new senior center. And while the new main library is currently under construction and expected to open in January 2009, we are still open for business at the downtown location at 408 Roberts Street.
