Description:
Facilities include Chahinkapa Zoo (AZA nationally accredited), Prairie Rose Carousel (1 / 150 restored antique carousels), Kidder Recreation Area (Red River greenway / outdoor recreation), Chahinkapa Park (large 86-acre park, Bois de Sioux Golf Course (9 holes in both ND & MN) and diverse park system. Recreation programs include Special Olympics, Kinship Program (mentoring program), arts and youth sports.
History:
The Wahpeton park system was started in 1933 by entrepreneur Robert Hughes. Chahinkapa Park was largely constructed through the WPA Program. Chahinkapa Zoo was renovated in the early 1980's into a accredited facility. Over the past two decades, the Kidder Recreation Area has become a catfishing destination!
