History:
The YWCA Cass Clay has been in the Fargo-Moorhead area for over 100 years. It is a membership organization dedicated to the empowerment of women and girls and the elimination of racism. In 1910, the YWCA started their first local community support programs, first aid and English classes for immigrant women and girls. As the community's needs changed, so did the programs and services of the YWCA. In 1977, the YWCA began providing emergency shelter and support services for female domestic violence victims and families experiencing homelessness in the Fargo-Moorhead area. In 1989, Transitional Housing and Shelter Children's Services were added. In 1991, the JobPlus employment program was started. In 1998, the YWCA once again expanded its service to the community by opening up a newly built 12,000 square foot Family Support Center, housing a Child Care and Preschool Center, community rooms and the YWCA Administrative Offices. In 2005, the Family Support Center Changed its name to A Child's World. In 2004, the YWCA opened a new emergency shelter on South University Drive which is houses 65 women and children.
