The mission of the Clay County Historical Society is to collect, preserve, and disseminate knowledge of the history of Clay County, Minnesota.
Description:
CCHS operates the Clay County Museum and Archives in the lower level of the Hjemkomst Center. The museum features exhibits about a variety of topics in Clay County's history. The exhibits are changed annually. The Archives is open to the public, especially researchers and genealogists, Monday through Friday. Professional assistance is available. Admission to the museum and archives is free. CCHS collects objects, documents, and photographs that document aspects of the history of Clay County, and uses these items to produce exhibits that educate the public about the history of the county.
History:
The Clay County Historical Society was organized in 1932. CCHS opened a museum at the Moorhead Teachers College in 1936 with WPA funding. The museum was moved to the county courthouse in the 1950s, moved to the Great Northern Railroad depot on 1st Avenue North in the 1970s and moved to its current home in the Hjemkomst Center in 1986.

From Interstate 94, take the 8th Street exit to Moorhead. Go north on 8th Street to 1st Avenue North. Turn left, heading west to the Hjemkomst Center, which will be on your right, before crossing the river.
