Description:
CAP assists low income individuals and families to meet the challenges of or providing for themselves and their families. The agency does not provide "on-going" monetary assistance but it does provide assistance to help individuals in some immediate needs. CAP's programming includes emergency services, one-time rental or security deposit help, food/commodities, medication assistance, homeless shelter, payee services, a center for persons with mental illness, home rehabilitation, home weatherization, Head Start, family planning, renters education, homebuyers education, some limited low income housing, drug and alcohol prevention education. The agency offers divers options based upon the needs of the communities we serve in southwestern North Dakota
History:
CAPs were organized across the nation under President L.B. Johnson's "War on Poverty". The CAP in southwestern North Dakota has been in existence for over 30 years and covers an 8 county region. It offers over 50 programs addressing the needs of low income individuals and families (those on fixed incomes and the working poor as well as those who are unemployed).
