Companions for Children is a non-profit, volunteer program providing youth from single-parent homes with screened positive adult role models. The program concept affords the youth a greater opportunity to grow into emotionally healthy productive adults.
Description:
Companions for Children is youth mentoring program in Minot, ND serving youth from single-parent households within a 15-mile radius of Minot. All youth must be ages of 6 and 14 years at the time of enrollment. Adult Companions are adults at least 18-years-old who want to spend time regularly with a youth. Volunteers undergo a screening process before their match with a Youth Companion. Volunteers are encouraged to attend monthly free events that Companions for Children staff plan. Volunteers are also eligible for discounts at local businesses.
History:
Companions for Children began as Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Minot in 1972. In 1978, the program incorporated as Companions for Children, Inc. Companions for Children has no national affiliations. The organization is governed by a board of directors and is funded through grants, fundraising, and donations.
