Emergency Management is an organized system of planning, decision making, and assignment of available resources to: prevent, prepare, mitigate, respond, and recover from disaster situations.
Description:
Cass Fargo Emergency Management is comprised of the City of Fargo Emergency Services Coordinator, the Cass County Emergency Services Coordinator, and an administrative assistant. Cass Fargo Emergency Management is responsible for emergency planning, training and program assistance to Fargo, Cass County and the cities therein; maintaining disaster preparedness education; ensuring that plans, emergency services, and first responders are exercised annually; managing a Hazardous Chemical Preparedness and Response Program; and, providing a center for coordinated emergency operations.
History:
A joint powers agreement between the city and the county was signed on December 23, 2003 by Cass County Commissioners and City of Fargo Commissioners. The agreement states that the city and county will operate a joint emergency management office to coordinate and act as liaisons between local government and agencies, the North Dakota Division of Emergency Management, and federal entities. Cass Fargo Emergency Management is overseen by a board comprised of city and county officials.
