The mission of the Plains Art Museum is to bring people and art together. As a public institution, we celebrate the finest of human achievement and inspire and engage diverse audiences in the creation, exhibition, and preservation of art.
Description:
The Plains Art Museum is the only accredited art museum in the state of North Dakota. The Museum offers exciting art exhibitions, guided tours, art educational programs, concerts and performances, classes, workshops, a unique print studio, a gift shop, and a cafe.
History:
The Plains Art Museum began as the Red River Art Center in the mid-1960s and was housed in the old Moorhead, Minnesota, post office. It acquired its present name in 1975. In 1993 "The Dream" of a new facility was adopted in the form of a five-year strategic plan. The Plains Art Museum maintained its residency in Moorhead until 1996. In October 1997 the Museum opened in a renovated, turn-of-the-century warehouse in historic downtown Fargo, North Dakota.
