Last updated on December 26, 2008

At MeritCare, our mission is "to improve the health and quality of life of the people we serve." As one system working together, we're achieving this mission. Our vision is to be among the leaders nationally in achieving distinction in clinical excellence and humanistic care. We carry out our mission and pursue our vision guided by the principles of stewardship: we choose service to others over our own self-interest; we are accountable to the individuals and communities we serve for our performance and for responsible use of the resources that have been entrusted to us.

Description:
MeritCare is the largest health care facility in our region. The system has 2 hospitals and several regional clinics in the surrounding area. MeritCare is one of the largest employers in the FM area. It also hosts many, many students from a variety of fields in either internships, field experience or service learning capacities.

History:
MeritCare was started by several doctors in the early 1900s; at one point in its history it was sponsored as well by area faith communities. MeritCare has since evolved into the region's premier healthcare system. Nationwide, MeritCare is recognized for its cardiac services, consistently ranking in the nation's top 100 for heart care. It is also recognized for oncology, with compassionate, expert care provided at the Roger Maris Cancer Center. Our Children's Hospital is one of only 180 children's hospitals in the nation recognized by the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions. Services include a general pediatric unit, a pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit and a highly -trained and experienced team of neonatologists, pediatricians and support staff with specialized pediatric training in many areas.
