Dru’s Dive is campaign with the mission to increase awareness about Violence against Students. The objective is to unite people across the state of North Dakota in the cause, increase awareness about Violence against Students, and to create multiple scholarships to be distributed through the North Dakota Council on Abused Women’s Services (NDCAWS) in the names of the three students in North Dakota who have been murdered; Dru Sjodin (UND), Mindy Morgenstern (VCSU), and Anita Knutson (MSU).
Description:
volunteers, and donations. Our vision is broad in the scope of things we would like to accomplish, yet we are unable to succeed in spreading awareness about the mission of Dru’s Dive without the support of members and businesses in the community. It also assists individuals in realizing the dream of attending a college in North Dakota and breaking the chains that immobilize students from achieving their goals when they are victimized by violence.
History:
Dru Sjodin (UND) was raped and murdered in November 2003. Her killer, Alfonso Rodriquez is currently on death row. Mindy Morgenstern (VCSC) was killed in September 2006; her killer Moe Gibbs received life without parole. During the summer of 2007, yet another student, Anita Knutson (Minot State) was murdered in her apartment. This case remains unsolved. Until now, there has not been a solid unification of students across the state standing for the cause of Violence against Students. Our hope is to establish the skydiving as an annual event, as well as many other events through out the year and to speak on behalf of those who were silenced because of violence. University students and supporters from across North Dakota/Minnesota are coming together in a unified effort to raise awareness about violence against students.
