F-M Dorothy Day House of Hospitality, Inc. is a caring Christian community that provides services to the homeless and hungry.
Description:
Our agency has two programs. First, the House provides emergency shelter for ten adult men. Guests at our shelter must have a desire and willingness to make positive changes in their lives. We allow individuals living on the streets to come to our shelter for showers, laundry, blankets, and toiletries. Second, our Food Pantry distributes food to families in need and follows the choice model. Those in need are able to shop for food of their choice based on availability once per month but can come as many times as needed for produce. The pantry in open Monday through Thursday from 7-8pm and is staffed by a Food Pantry Coordinator and volunteers.
History:
In 1983, homeless people slept in the basement of the Newman Center in Moorhead. The city said they could not continue to do this, so the priests decided to buy a house and make it a shelter; thus, the F-M Dorothy Day House came to be. It is a non-profit organization governed by a 12 member board of directors. There are two live-in staff, four part-time and one volunteer staff, a food pantry coordinator, an assistant director, a director, and over 500 other volunteers yearly who help keep the organization up and running.
