Our mission is to serve, empower and connect our residents with the resources they need to improve the quality of their lives and the prospects for their future.
Description:
Through a variety of programs, the GFHA strives to serve all populations in Grand Forks County. We house low-income households of all ages and ethnicities. We have housing units located on Cherry Street, 4th Ave. S. Continental Drive, and 24th Ave. South in Grand Forks. Additionally, households using our voucher program can live in virtually any apartment (depending on cost) across the county. Please view www.grandforkshousingauthority.org
The GFHA pioneered after-school programs for assisted housing in 1991 with their first location staffed by students from UND and a single computer. In 1995, HUD launched Neighborhood Networks, an initiative encouraging the development of community technology centers in HUD insured and assisted housing. This program was one of the first federal initiatives to promote computer access and self-sufficiency in low-income communities. The GFHA and Grand Forks Homes, Inc. joined this program in early 1996 when they built the LaGrave Learning Center, the first Neighborhood Networks center in the Rocky Mountain Region. Today there are four Neighborhood Networks centers in Grand Forks and 1,260 across the nation. Please view www.lagrave.com for more information about our Learning Centers.
History:
The Grand Forks Housing Authority (GFHA) was founded in 1967 to provide a means for City government, HUD, the state of ND, non-profit service providers, property owners and developers to work together to provide the best possible mix of housing programs for families, seniors and disabled individuals. Since that time thousands of families and individuals have been provided access to a variety of programs, computer access, support for self-sufficiency, and links to dozens of other services. We are governed by a Board of Commissioners, which is appointed with the consent of the Mayor and City Council.
