Red River Valley Community Action (RRVCA) is a private, non-profit human service organization serving Nelson, Pembina, Walsh, and Grand Forks Counties. Like community action agencies across the nation, RRVCA works to focus private and public resources on the goal of helping low-income people improve their lives. This includes helping people obtain independence for the rest of their lives.

The greatest strength of community action is its ability to change as community needs change. RRVCA's staff of human service professionals continually considers new ways to respond to both old and new problems present in the region.

History:
The Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, passed by President Lyndon Johnson, created Community Action Agenices (CAAs)to fight America's War on Poverty and eliminate the causes and consequences of poverty in the United States. Seven CAAs in North Dakota and the four in South Dakota provide essential programs, services, and community building to assist individuals with achieving economic self-sufficiency. CAAs created an innovative form of inlcusion to ensure the needs of the low-income, private, and public sectors. By combining these resources, CAAs enable families and individuals to secure the opportunities they need to obtain and maintain economic security.
