The Volunteer Services Department of Altru Health System has been established to develop and maintain an efficient and caring staff of volunteers who offer an extra dimension of care and service to patients, empathy to families and visitors and supportive services for the system's staff and Altru Alliance.
Description:
To enhance the health system's service to patients and their families. To provide people in the community with the opportunity for meaningful service. To increase the community's understanding of the health system. To provide people with career exploration in health care as they serve in the volunteer program. The Volunteer Services Department involves more than 25,000 hours of service annually by adult, student and junior volunteers in many service areas within the health system.
History:
Altru Health System is an integrated not-for-profit health system. As a regional referral site, Altru cares for patients from Grand Forks and surrounding counties. Altru Hospital is licensed for 261 acute care beds and provides health care to pediatric, obstetric, medical, surgical, cancer, intensive and coronary care, emergency, psychiatric and chemically dependent patients. There are approximately 200 physicians representing family practice and 43 specialists. The Health System employees over 3,500 people.
