Red River Youth For Christ/ Youth Guidance - Teen Moms
Last updated on February 13, 2008

The purpose of Youth Guidance is to help a young person develop attitudes and behavior patterns that allow him or her to function more constructively in society.

Description:
Most participants are youthful offenders with antisocial tendencies, both male and female, between 10 and 18 years of age. Participation is voluntary, with parental permission.

The Youth Guidance program emphasizes:

  • teaching basic life skills
  • providing opportunity for a relationship with a mature, caring, positive adult role model
  • promoting and developing a more positive self-image
  • facilitating a positive peer group experience

In all programs, Youth Guidance staff and volunteers teach faith in God and basic Christian values as the foundation of rehabilitation and personal growth.

Youth Guidance is offering these types of programs designed for troubled youth.

One To One
Many young people have found that, when faced with troubles, the personal attention of an adult friend can be a big help. In the Youth Guidance Lifeline program, adult volunteers are matched with troubled youth. Each week, the adult and youth meet to participate in activities of mutual interest and talk together about personal struggles and goals for change. The young person will have the opportunity to explore, with his or her adult friend, how a personal and practical faith in God can help bring growth through the hard times youth experience today.

Small Groups
Every young person wants to be part of "The Group". Parents understand the importance of a "good" group of friends. The Youth Guidance staff offers weekly groups that are designed to provide a "positive" peer group experience, emphasizing personal worth, trust, openness and mutual respect. The group discusses Christian values such as honesty, forgiveness, justice, faith and hope. Most groups meet right after school, and dropped off at home, following the group.

High Adventure
Young people need the opportunity to get away from it all. YG camps offer them new, constructive challenges, where they gain a fresh sense of accomplishment and new appreciation for the outdoors. These trips are inexpensive and scholarships are provided to make it possible for every young person to participate.

History:
Youth for Christ/Youth Guidance has been in Fgo/Mhd for 22 years. Rev. Bo Huntley has been a part of the organization for that entire time. We have worked closely with the juvenile authorities as chaplains for both the Fargo and Moorhead juvenile centers as well as Moorhead shelter, Dakota Boys Ranch Residential Center and Springhill group home in Detroit Lakes. Over the years we have also done programs at Luther Hall, the Victory Ranch and other group homes that no longer are in service. We work in connection with law enforcement, social services and probation. Youth Guidance is a well established ministry with a proven track record.
